About Us

Here at webBackplane we work on standards, software, tools, training and consultancy that relate to web applications. We're particularly focused on those applications that need dynamic user interfaces, or relate to the semantic web.

Our team has a lot of experience, not only in building these kinds of applications, but also in building JavaScript libraries and browser extensions that help to take these applications out of the everyday. We also work hard within the W3C, assisting in the evolution of the standards that make dynamic web applications possible (in some cases we even invented the ideas), and we've published, blogged about, and spoken on many of the technologies we use and the services we offer.

Why the name?

In computer systems, a backplane is a piece of hardware onto which a number of pluggable modules can be placed. By putting some of the functionality onto the backplane itself, each individual module need only have the components and features necessary to do its job.

At webBackplane we believe the same approach needs to be applied to software and in particular internet software. Members of our team have created numerous modules that can be leveraged in our applications, as well as making them available to other people by taking them open source.
